India Talks, a half hour discussion and interview programme hosted by Paranjoy Guha Thakurta is a general interest, current affairs talk show which is telecast five days a week at 10pm, repeated at 11:30pm. The programme, which completed 400 episodes on the 17th of June, 1997, has featured virtually all the prominent politicians, businesspersons, bureaucrats, professionals, activists and decision-makers in the country. Typically, four out of five episodes telecast in a week would either be on politics or some aspect of business or the economy; while one out of five episodes would be on any topic of current interest.
Among the 600-odd guests who have appeared on the programme are persons from a diverse range of disciplines, persons including Inder Kumar Gujral, Sitaram Kesri, H D Deve Gowda, A B Vajpayee, L K Advani, H S Surjeet, Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram, V P Singh, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Rahul Bajaj, Swaraj Paul, T N Seshan, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, N K Singh, Tejendra Khanna, Michael Porter, Rebecca Mark, D R Mehta, the late Datta Samant, the late Lakhubhai Pathak, Medha Patkar, Phoolan Devi and others.
India Talks celebrates the 50th year of India's independence with the State Of The Nation series to be telecast every Friday of the week. The State Of The Nation series will attempt to look at the past half century through the individual experiences of individual experts in their respective areas of discipline. The discussions would do an in-depth examination of how India has evolved will be woven into the theme of the State Of The Nation series. We would try and locate what influences have been wielded over the country in the past and what will be the influences that will shape the future to come. Each set-up package will be different in terms of the look and feel of the programme. Innovatively conceived, the series would have a new opening title sequence and smart looking graphics.
